In todays lesson we were split up into groups of four. Our task was to create a scene with dialogue. My group decided that we were going to just film an argument between two people. We were given a camera, tripod and a microphone. We filmed two wide shots, and two close ups from each side of the two characters. One of the close ups was an over the shoulder and then the other was with the opposing character out of the shot but from a different angle to the over the shoulder shots. Whilst filming all of these shots we made sure to check that we were following the 180 degree rule so that when we edit this scene together it all fits together and smoothly transitions between shots without looking awkward.

Props for A1 Coursework Georgia Cook

Location for A1 Coursework Georgia Cook
Location:
As we get closer to the production day, we need to ensure we have established props, costume and location and that if we need to buy anything it can be done prior to returning back to school.

In regards to location, our ideal and preferred location is Meadowbank, Dorking (the pitch belonging to the Dorking Wanderers). Our college already uses their grounds to train on a Tuesday afternoon, so we thought it would be best to approach them with this connection in mind. Correspondingly, we planned on asking teachers at our college for the correct people to contact so that we are organised and professional rather than appearing amateur and unsure as we keep asking around. As it stands (15.04.21) we have not been able to get a contact but we plan on doing this within the first week back at school.
The drafted email to Meadowbank:

Idea 4
4. This next opening title sequence will consist of a girl being chased through woods. By a creature that is not seen vividly at any point. It has a number of shots quickly cutting upon action to convey the intensity of the scene. There would be no build up to the chase it would simply start during the chase with cuts that go black and show the names. Until the girl falls over and gets caught where it shows the title of the film in in the black cut of the film.
The entire film is about a boy who grew up with no parents and lives hidden in the woods. However, as soon as any member of society enters his area they disappear(most likely eaten, due to finds of bones scattered in the woods). Until one day a group of young adults quest to capture an image of this boy to identify who he is as no one knows.
Idea 3
3. The opening title sequence will consist of a character who is extremely far away. The entirety of the opening title sequence will be one shot as the character will be riding a motorcycle towards the camera from a long distance.
This film is going to be about a man who is on a mission. To find out who killed his father. This character is an ex military officer who has faint memories of the night of the murder as he was a witness. He heads back to his home town to avenge is fathers death. The main character was taken out of the military on medical leave due to the fact that he lost he lost his leg to an IED. However, his modified leg has its advantages.
Idea 2
2.The opening title sequence will consist of three characters who pull up to a parking spot ( ideally some sort of gas station). Two of the characters in this group of friends get out of the car to go and have an organised meeting most likely some sort of contraband of a small amount. The remaining character who is in the car has only just woken up and gets out of the car to use a toilet. Yet, as he/she is in the toilets their friends had taken off without knowing that he was no longer in the car as he was previously sleeping in the back of the car. It was only once the character had left the toilets that he ended up getting into the back one of the sketching peoples car that his friends were talking to that he then falls asleep in.
The entire film is going to be about how this character that has fallen asleep in the wrong persons car and then woken up in a whole other lifstyle as he is forced by a gang to commit felony which leaves him having to stay away from his past and live a gangsters life.

Editing with Sound
In todays lesson we put together all of the skills that we were taught in our previous work shops where we were shown how to use the camera's and software and we created a short scene in order to make sure that we were comfortable with how everything works. In order to achieve this we made a script for our two actors to internalise and make sure that they are able to repeat. With this we filmed the entire scene several times from multiple angles and then went up to our schools editing suite to attempt to edit all fo the footage together.

Editing Software
In todays lesson we were instructed to head up to our schools editing suite. As soon as we got up there we were taught all about the basic controls when i comes to editing. The software that we are using is called premiere pro. We were told that all of the footage that has been recorded on the camera's SD Card is also referred to us as rushes. Then on the software itself it is important to understand that in order to then view the footage you have to click on the triangular icon on each clip for it to be accessed in order to view in the top left. area of the software. By clicking I you will create a start point in the clip by clicking O you can create an end point in the clip. Once this has been done you then drag the clip to the bottom right corner where you will find the timeline where you can manipulate the footage to your satisfaction.

Reviewing our shoot day plan
In todays lesson we mainly just spent time reviewing who it is that we need on our shoot day.We then made a few adjustments to our shot list being that we are going to have one of our main character run go for their run at the very begging of the opening title sequence because it would chronologically make sense. I then made sure to email two more teacher to take part in our opening title sequence and currently I am just waiting on a response. PS sorry for the bad quality
Filming with Camera's
In todays media lesson our teacher taught about the key words that should always be used when filming any scene.
- First you should make sure that everyone has called out standby. So that the camera holder is certain that everyone on set is prepared to start recording.
- Then you will hear whoever is operating the camera say “roll camera” then shortly after that they’ll call out “rolling”. Meaning that the camera is currently recording
- As soon as everything is ready the director or assistant director will then say “action” in which the actors will start acting.
- Finally once the directors are pleased with what they have shot they will call out cut in order to move on to another shot or retake.
Once we had been told how to effectively communicate along with one another to achieve an efficient shot. We then moved on to taking having a go ourselves. We started off by coming up with a really simple idea. The group that I was allocated to decided to shoot a character walking up the a set of stairs.
We started off by filming a wide shot of one of us walking up a set of stair whilst holding the beginning of the railing.
The next shot was a close up of him grabbing the handle and walking up the stairs.
Then the final shot was a close up of his feet as he walking up the stairs.
Whilst filming all of these shots we used the methods that our teacher taught us to make sure that we were all ready and that we were all happy to proceed to film.

Camera's
In todays lesson we learnt the basic fundamentals of how to use the film camera that we are going to be using in our opening title sequences.
We were first show how to set up the tripod.
- The first step was extending the legs of the tri-pod in order to achieve the correct hight for the camera.
- Once your hight is achieved to your satisfaction you then have to look at the spirit level and ensure that the bubble is sitting in the middle of the circle.
- To do this our teacher explained that there was a bolt underneath the tripod that needs to be loosened in order to adjust the spirit level.
Then we learned how to use the camera themselves.
- we started off by opening the case ( black magic mini ursa)
- As soon as we opened the case we then proceeded to learn how to attach the camera to the tripod.
- The camera slides through the grooved and clicks into one of the locks. But then on the right hand side of the tripod there is a bolt that securely clamps down the camera into the tripod to ensure that it will remain in place.
- Once the camera was set up we attach the battery that clicks into the back of the camera using a V-Lock system.
- We then proceeded to turning on the camera and learning how to focus a shot.
- Zoom in on your character or object
- Then focus in until maximum clarity is achieved.
- We then learned how to adjust the exposure by using the blue lever that is part of an extension to the lens.
- We then started to use the white balance presets on the camera. For example, the presets that are generated for man made light or natural. The reasoning for this is because the temperature of the lighting will differ depending on where your shot location is.

Kyle Cooper 'Kiss Kiss Bang Bang' Opening Title Sequence Analysis
The entirety of this opening title sequence is motion pictured. From the very beginning we can see that Cooper has been very creative with the way that he presents each individual title. For example, having them enter and exit buildings as the shot is moving or generally how he smoothly corresponds each individual title along with the motion pictures that he has created.
Yet from the beginning we first notice a character who is clearly trespassing until we see a image of a females eyes looking at this male character. what this could possibly suggest is that this film could consist of some form of romance or the general idea that this female character is keeping a close watch. once the male character runs into the hanger the camera continues moving to the right at the same speed into what has been drawn out to be orange bushes. However the entire shot fades into this orange colour in which the title of the film is then shown. In the post production of this opening title sequence they made the sound of two gun shots parallel with the title's ending 'bang bang'. It is once this has happened that we see a drawn outline of a woman who could be the eyes in the previous shot. In the backdrop she is shown holding a gun whilst in the front of the frame we see a gun being pointed. This initials that either this female is some form of law enforcement or that she is potentially a criminal that is going after the male character.
The instrumentation and the motion pictures compliment one another a lot through out this opening title sequence. For, example when the female is falling down from the balcony you can hear that the nots on the piano are being played down a scale emphasising her fall to which she then ends up on the floor where red lines are drawn in as a representation of tape surrounding a crime scene.

First Meeting back from Easter
For our first meeting back from easter we had a group discussion with a previous Hurtwood House student. Our task was to explain to the ex-student what our plan for our opening title sequence is. The feedback that he gave was that our idea is very achievable and that we planned it well.
Freddie then started to email students and request that they would be apart of our cast in our opening title sequence:

Costumes for A1 Coursework
Costumes:
Over our easter holidays we decided collectively as a group that we are going to make use of our school football kit for our A1 coursework project. For the opposing football team were still have a few options. Either we ask one of the football teams down at the shooting location if they would be willing to just help us by lending us a few extras for a few shots. Otherwise we can try and see if we have an away kit. So long as the opposing teams kit has different colours then we are prepared. We also might find ourselves using a few windbreakers for a few of the shots of the players making their way to the football grounds.
